Jan 1, 2006 --- LID
Standards Implementation
Project:

The goal of the Low Impact
Development (LID) Standards
Implementation Project is to
promote the development of a
comprehensive and uniform
set of LID standards to be
adopted and implemented by
Kitsap County, its four
incorporated cities and
supported by the Suquamish
Tribe. In addition, tools to
facilitate implementation,
including a guidelines
documents and training will
be developed.

As a result of this project
it should be easier for
property owners to implement
LID strategies, and for the
County and its jurisdictions
to recognize the value of
LID and permit projects
using LID strategies. The
benefits of this effort are
significant and will
include:
„X Improving water quality
by reducing stormwater
runoff from developed sites
„X Improving hydrological
function by encouraging
on-site aquifer recharge and
infiltration
„X Making it cost-effective
to use LID strategies
„X Reducing the overall cost
of stormwater management
measures for developments
„X Reducing County and City
maintenance costs and
liability

April 1, 2006 --- PIE Grant:

In March, 2006 the Kitsap
Home Builders Foundation
received a Public
Information and Education
(PIE) Grant from the Puget
Sound Action Team. The grant
will allow the quarter acre
lot on which the Kitsap HBA
office sits to be
retrofitted using LID
technologies. During the
retrofit process, area
builders, developers,
contractors, and students
will be trained and educated
on the correct installation
techniques of various LID
technologies. Upon
completion, the KHBA site
will be a fully operational
LID showcase and will serve
to educate the public about
low impact development.
Retrofit plans are currently
in the design process with
construction to commence
late summer 2006.
